Garden Club

In November, the Garden Club learned about essential oils. We used lavender and other oils to make bath salts. We have had a lot of fun. I am looking forward to getting together this coming year. In January, we lost our former Garden Club activity lead, Terry Foxx. She was a wealth of knowledge and a fierce gardener. She will be missed by all. If you are interested in joining, please  contact Gloria Copeland at 9glo456@gmail.com

Tables of Eight

It’s hard to believe that another year of Tables of Eight is over. It’s been a fun year filled with yummy food shared with old and new friends. Our Christmas party at Rusty Goetz’s beautiful home was a dinner party that we all will remember.

Karen and I have enjoyed chairing this group for the last two years. We thank everyone for their help in making Tables of Eight a successful and fun Activity Group.

Ladies Night Out

Our Ladies Night Out group is off to a great start for the 2026 year. We went to High Noon in January for a fabulous meal. That is part of the fun with this group – meet new friends,  visit with old ones, try new restaurants and go back to our favorites. Come join us, 3rd Thursday of the month. Hope to see you in January 2026. Nancy Kluck, host Joan Douglas, co-host 505-550-8773

Bowling League

We meet Thursday mornings from September to April from 9:00 AM until 11:30ish. We have 12 teams of 4 women each. Cost is about $12.50 each week for 3 games. There is a commitment to bowl most weeks, as this is an ongoing league . We all have lives, and unexpected  things come up, so we always need subs too. We just bowl…. or try our best to bowl.

🤗

There is lots of visiting and eating while we’re there. It’s lots of fun. Please contact Shirley Salzbrenner (505)228-3341 if you would be interested in joining a league that bowls every Thursday or if you might want to just be available as a sub…

Bunco

Bunco stayed strong throughout the winter and spring. There were 16 attendees for the past three months and new members continue to join frequently. Sonje Beal hosted on February 2nd and the winners were Gerri Boden, Joan Douglas, Anita Husby, and Carolyn Rigirozzi. Anita Rothe-Smith stepped up to host at the last minute (thanks Anita!) and Theresa Miller helped her a lot, co-hosting on March 6th. Carolyn Rigirozzi once again was a winner, this time rolling Bunkettes almost every round. The other winners were Brandi West, Kathleen Rutter, and Michelle Abreu. Margo Olsen hosted April 3rd and Theresa Miller was there again, helping in so many ways as co-host. Winners were Joyce Wolfe, Meg Dahrling, Diane Serda, and Dolores Bartlett.
Join us if you’re interested in playing Bunco. It’s fun, casual, and right here in Four Hills. If you have questions or wish to be added to the email list, call or email Margo Olsen. There’s no commitment and you can sign up as a substitute when the emails go out.

Day Book Group

With June fast approaching, the members of the Day Book Group are looking forward to the most important meeting of the year. On June 17th we will be selecting our books for the entire next year. Carolyn Rigirozzi has compiled all of our suggestions into three lists for us, a list of classics, one of non-fiction and  the third of fiction. Those lists are ready to be sent to our group members, for consideration during the next few weeks. We will select 1 classic, 4 non-fiction, and 5 fiction. This is a great meeting and after all our hard work we have a pot luck lunch.Let me know if you are interested in joining us.

Neighborhood Bridge

The Monday Bridge group’s goal is fun, socialization, and mental stimulation. We do all three, including listening to the joy and excitement coming from the next table, while we bemoan getting bad cards, a partner who suddenly forgets how to count, and wonder when it will be our turn to crow with laughter over setting our opponents down 3, doubled and vulnerable, or make an impossible slam. Bridge is never boring, makes you think, and is always fun.

Our last notable activity was a Valentine luncheon followed by bridge. We ate too much of the delicious food our hostesses (Sharon Quiroga, Pam Wedertz, Cindy Wood and Lynn Jones) provided, enjoyed the decorations, and spent the afternoon with our friends and favorite game. Since I wasn’t hostess, I even got to keep the deuce prize I won.

Our next event is on May 11 when we are having an Italian themed potluck at my house to celebrate year-end (although as activity chairperson, I started cheating by continuing bridge into the summer). It is also time for me to let go of three years in that position. My goals were to recruit more players and provide opportunities for increasing bridge knowledge. I wrote TIPS, Nancy Kluck and I gave free classes, and naturally gave free bridge advice whether it was wanted or not. All I can say is thanks to everyone who helped me and “yea” to no more Christmas luncheons at restaurants that can’t keep track of their reservation’s. Contact Emily Giese at begiese@msn.com

Time to do a little brain exercise?  Have some fun with friends while doing it?  Then try taking Bridge lessons with Nancy on Monday afternoons from 1-3.  You actually have to learn a bidding language and what could be better for those brain cells?  It’s a game of strategy with a bit of gambling.  Language, strategy,  & luck and every hand is different!

Happy Hour Hijinx

The Happy Hour Hijinx Group will continue meeting through the summer on the second Saturday of each month. This is a great opportunity to bring a guest and meet other neighbors. Hosts provide beverages while participants bring an appetizer, occasionally following a specific theme. We will soon be signing up hosts for August through next July. Please contact me at marthaebarrera@gmail.com if you would like more information about participating or hosting.

Needlework

Needlework meets the third Monday of each month throughout the entire year from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.  We meet at members’ homes and enjoy light refreshments, good fellowship, and show and tell of projects of the members.    We welcome any form of needlework and are always amazed at the talents of our members.  For anyone who might be interested in joining us, you may contact the following:

“Card”- iology Club

It’s a new year and we had a lot of fun making holiday cards in December but ready to create fun projects for the spring and summer. In each class we make three paper projects. I will prep the supplies and we assemble them together. We welcome all people, beginner to expert! The class limit is 12 so RSVP early. The next scheduled classes are February 23rd, April 27th and June 22. Contact Michelle Abreu for more information. michellegmassage@gmail.com

Evening Book Club

The Evening Book group, aka LOTN or Ladies of the Night, meets at 6pm on the
second Thursday of each month at members’ homes. We have become a large
group requiring meeting attendees to be limited to the number each host feels
comfortable inviting into their home.
The month of January has been difficult for our group as we said goodbye to two
much loved members, Janis Buckingham on January 11 and Peggy Hennessey on
January 21. Janis lived a long life of service to others. As a military wife, she was
able to live in numerous places around the world at pivotal times in history. Janis
was a keen observer and wonderful historian. Her insights and reflections will be
missed. Janis passed peacefully at the age of 98 at home surrounded by her
family. Peggy Hennessey was active in several FHN activity groups and, along with
her now deceased husband, Gordon, was well-known throughout the
neighborhood. Peggy was known by all for her kindness and concern for others.
A military wife and Registered Nurse, Peggy enjoyed duplicate bridge and was an
avid tennis, and later pickleball, player. Peggy and Gordon shared a love of family
and traveled extensively. The passing of Janis and Peggy has left two holes in our
hearts. RIP Janis and Peggy.

Marathon Bridge

Marathon Bridge is up and running. Teams of two players play a different team each month. Scores are recorded and we will have a luncheon in June and give cash prizes for the top 3 teams.

The competition is great and getting together with old and new friends is so much fun.

Thanks, Lynn Jones  (chairman)  505-298-1629 or Karel Toohey 505-294-4129

Ladies Adventure

12 FHN Adventurers gathered at Eldora Chocolates in the North Valley of Albuquerque for a bean-to-bar experience of truly amazing single-origin perfect ingredients. We tasted chocolate from Peru; Chiapas, Mexico; and Ecuador. Eldora has won many international awards including, most recently, a gold medal for a green chile biscochito dark chocolate bar.  The educational, interactive experience was amazing and the owner himself led us through the process and showed us the beautiful building designed by his wife. The adventure group highly recommends this place to anyone! You don’t even need to have a sweet tooth as you can actually buy the unprocessed nibs (no sugar!) from the shop.

Adventurers will be going out to lunch and then the Balloon Museum Feb 26th (it is a Thursday). I’m trying to do things on different days of the week so people will have a better chance of catching a time that works for them.

Stay tuned for more fun adventures (and send ideas to Sonje Beal!) next month.
