Activity Groups

Grape Expectations
This fun wine tasting and educational group meets every other month. In November, we were ready for the holidays and tasted 3 types of Gluhwein or mulled wine with the white Alsace being the favorite. In January, we had a bubbly tasting at Merrill Gallegos’ house with 2 Champagnes, 2 Sparkling wines and 2 Proseccos. It was a bubbly affair! Do you know there are 49 million bubbles in a bottle of Champagne? Our next event will be in March at Total Wine in Uptown. We will be tasting and learning about Italian Wines. Tip to Toe in The boot! Please let us know if you would like to host one of our events next year.
Contact Laura Trawicki or Michelle Abreu michellegmassage@gmail.com to join!

Crafter’s Anonymous
Crafter’s Anonymous is for anyone who loves to do crafts in a make and take format. Our goal is to enjoy friends while making something fun. In January, we did a make up class for those who couldnt attend last spring. We made patriotic stars from paint and stir sticks painted in red white and blue and added ribbon in red, white and blue fabric. In December we made gourd ornaments at Brenda Blackwelder’s studio.
For more info email Michelle Montgomery at Mr.mrs.monty@gmail.com

Garden Club
In November, the Garden Club learned about essential oils. We used lavender and other oils to make bath salts. We have had a lot of fun. I am looking forward to getting together this coming year. In January, we lost our former Garden Club activity lead, Terry Foxx. She was a wealth of knowledge and a fierce gardener. She will be missed by all. If you are interested in joining, please contact Gloria Copeland at 9glo456@gmail.com

Tables of Eight
Time is flying by and spring is just around the corner. Tables of Eight is flourishing as we enjoy good food, catch up with friends, and welcome new members. We celebrated the holidays with our entire group at Rusty Goetz’s lovely home. We enjoyed two different kinds of lasagnas – a white lasagna and a red lasagna, both made from two of Rusty’s favorite recipes. They were delicious!! It was a magical evening as our group is usually only together several times a year. January brought us back to our small group dinners, thus the name “Tables of Eight.” New members who enjoy cooking and love to eat are always welcome to join us. We meet the first Saturday of each month. Until then, Bon Appetit!

Ladies Night Out
Our Ladies Night Out group is off to a great start for the 2026 year. We went to High Noon in January for a fabulous meal. That is part of the fun with this group – meet new friends, visit with old ones, try new restaurants and go back to our favorites. Come join us, 3rd Thursday of the month. Hope to see you in January 2026. Nancy Kluck, host Joan Douglas, co-host 505-550-8773

Bowling League
We meet Thursday mornings from September to April from 9:00 AM until 11:30ish. We have 12 teams of 4 women each. Cost is about $12.50 each week for 3 games. There is a commitment to bowl most weeks, as this is an ongoing league . We all have lives, and unexpected things come up, so we always need subs too. We just bowl…. or try our best to bowl.

There is lots of visiting and eating while we’re there. It’s lots of fun. Please contact Shirley Salzbrenner (505)228-3341 if you would be interested in joining a league that bowls every Thursday or if you might want to just be available as a sub…

Bunco
Bunco was so much fun for the members who attended the past Friday evenings. Our hostesses served amazing desserts between “halftime”. We had new players join the group and they confirmed that it really is just an easy dice game. On November 7th, Roena Floyd hosted 16 happy players. We used four substitutes, and that confirms that signing up to substitute pays off! The winners were Laura Kesselman, Theresa Miller, Kaye Martin, and Meg Dahrling. December 5th was a themed Christmas attire event (red or green or plaid) hosted by Anita Rothe-Smith with Joan Douglas helping. Her Christmas decorations, inside and outside, and holiday food put everyone in a very festive mood. Laura Kesselman wins again (!), along with Joan Douglas, Anita Husby, and Ashley Cummings. Laura Kesselman hosted 12 people on January 9th and once again we used four substitutes. Therese Sims won big bucks for the most Wins and other winners were Jan DeMay, Patty Culp, and Chelsea Lewis. Join us if you have never played Bunco before. It’s such fun, so casual, and right in your neighborhood. If you have questions or wish to be added to the email list, call or email Margo Olsen. There’s no commitment involved and you can also ask to be a substitute when the signup emails go out.Margo 925-989-2741 mjolsen@comcast.net

Day Book Group
Happy New Year Ladies, I hope everyone is off to a good start for 2026. In the Day Book Group we are half way through our list of books this month. In December we met at The Canyon Club for lunch and we don’t have a book review that month. Since we didn’t have a book review for the month of December, I suggested that our members read something that is not on our list so they have something to recommend for our book selection meeting in June. This month’s Book is The Lost Girls of Paris by Pam Jenoff. Jordyn DeMay, one of our new members this year, will be hosting the group and reviewing the book with us. In February we will be reading our classic for the year, Death Comes for the Archbishop, by Willa Cather. Dea Serrano, also a new member, will be hosting that meeting and Pam Moon will be our reviewer. In March we will be reading Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby VanPelt. Nancy Kluck will be our reviewer and hostess. This is a fun group of women and we read a wide variety of books. If you are interested in joining us, please give me a call or send me an email. In June we select our books for the entire year, 10 in all. Generally we read one classic, 5 fiction and 4 non fiction. If you think this is a group you are interested in for the 26-27 year, try to join us before that June meeting, so you can get in on the book selections, and be ready to start reading with us in July. We always meet on the third Wednesday morning at 10:00.

Neighborhood Bridge
A new year approaches and FHN’s Monday bridge group will meet as always on the second Monday of the month at 12:30. It is party bridge, so you don’t need to come with a partner. Every 5 hands we change partners, get in a little gossip and snack on the goodies. Hosting rotates, but no one is required to take a turn. We always have fun and get mental stimulation from playing. There are usually two lunches out plus a lunch hosted by some of the players. We eat too much and laugh alot. While play is officially September through May, many of us continue to meet during the summer months. New members are always welcome. Contact Emily Giese at begiese@msn.com
Time to do a little brain exercise? Have some fun with friends while doing it? Then try taking Bridge lessons with Nancy on Monday afternoons from 1-3. You actually have to learn a bidding language and what could be better for those brain cells? It’s a game of strategy with a bit of gambling. Language, strategy, & luck and every hand is different!

Happy Hour Hijinx
Happy Hour Hijinx is going strong! Love seeing the group’s enthusiasm and dedication to getting together every second Saturday. Big thanks to Mary Ross for kicking off 2026 with a great January 10th event. Can’t wait for Dolores Bartlett’s Valentine’s-themed happy hour on February 14th! Heads up—-look out for an email about Dea Serrano’s March 14th celebration. If you’re looking for a fun way to connect with neighbors over good food and drinks, Happy Hour Hijinx is the way to go! Needlework
Needlework group has started off the New Year with our first meeting and the anticipation of all the projects our members have planned for the year. We have 4 new members that have joined our group and display many talents. We meet the third Monday of each month, year around, from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at member’s homes. New members are always welcome and if you are interested in joining, please contact:

“Card”- iology Club
It’s a new year and we had a lot of fun making holiday cards in December but ready to create fun projects for the spring and summer. In each class we make three paper projects. I will prep the supplies and we assemble them together. We welcome all people, beginner to expert! The class limit is 12 so RSVP early. The next scheduled classes are February 23rd, April 27th and June 22. Contact Michelle Abreu for more information. michellegmassage@gmail.com

Evening Book Club
The Evening Book group, aka LOTN or Ladies of the Night, meets at 6pm on the
second Thursday of each month at members’ homes. We have become a large
group requiring meeting attendees to be limited to the number each host feels
comfortable inviting into their home.
The month of January has been difficult for our group as we said goodbye to two
much loved members, Janis Buckingham on January 11 and Peggy Hennessey on
January 21. Janis lived a long life of service to others. As a military wife, she was
able to live in numerous places around the world at pivotal times in history. Janis
was a keen observer and wonderful historian. Her insights and reflections will be
missed. Janis passed peacefully at the age of 98 at home surrounded by her
family. Peggy Hennessey was active in several FHN activity groups and, along with
her now deceased husband, Gordon, was well-known throughout the
neighborhood. Peggy was known by all for her kindness and concern for others.
A military wife and Registered Nurse, Peggy enjoyed duplicate bridge and was an
avid tennis, and later pickleball, player. Peggy and Gordon shared a love of family
and traveled extensively. The passing of Janis and Peggy has left two holes in our
hearts. RIP Janis and Peggy.

Marathon Bridge
Marathon Bridge started up in September. Bridge teams of two play all the other teams throughout the year ending in May. At that time we will have a luncheon and awards. Lots of fun, especially when your team gets good cards! Lynn Jones, chairman 505-298-1629 or Karel Toohey 505-294-4129

Ladies Adventure
12 FHN Adventurers gathered at Eldora Chocolates in the North Valley of Albuquerque for a bean-to-bar experience of truly amazing single-origin perfect ingredients. We tasted chocolate from Peru; Chiapas, Mexico; and Ecuador. Eldora has won many international awards including, most recently, a gold medal for a green chile biscochito dark chocolate bar. The educational, interactive experience was amazing and the owner himself led us through the process and showed us the beautiful building designed by his wife. The adventure group highly recommends this place to anyone! You don’t even need to have a sweet tooth as you can actually buy the unprocessed nibs (no sugar!) from the shop.
Adventurers will be going out to lunch and then the Balloon Museum Feb 26th (it is a Thursday). I’m trying to do things on different days of the week so people will have a better chance of catching a time that works for them.
Stay tuned for more fun adventures (and send ideas to Sonje Beal!) next month.

Mom’s Group
The children of Four Hills are getting back into the swing of things after the excitement of the holidays! We are working on some fresh ideas to help us stay connected this busy school season. Our hope is to create simple, welcoming opportunities for families to connect, support one other and enjoy time together right here in our neighborhood.
